Society Awards
The Bermuda Orchid Society encourages members to bring their blooming orchids to every meeting. Plants are displayed, discussed and judged by knowledgeable members or visiting orchid growers. Each plant is awarded points, which are compiled over the year and annual trophies depending on the size of the grower’s collection are awarded at the end of each year.
Point System
Plants receive points in their genus category and in hybrid and species categories.
- First place and 50 points.
- Second place and 25 points.
- Third place and 15 points.
Each exhibitor may choose one of his/her plants to win Robert Mercer Trophy points.
If a miniture is exhbitied the exhibitor should also choose to be added to the Darrell Clarke Trophy points.
Annual Trophies
David Wadson Trophy
This trophy is awarded annually for members who display orchids from a collection of more than 151 plants
Medium Collection Trophy
This trophy is awarded annually for members who display orchids from a collection between 50 and 150 plants
Small Collection Trophy
This trophy is awarded annually for members who display orchids from a collection between 1 and 50 plants
Beginners Award
This trophy is awarded annually to a member starting an orchid collection
The Chesley Trott Trophy
This is an award for the member earning the most points for Orchids in the Annual Exhibition.
George & Mary Moulder Trophy
This trophy was donated by Mary and George Moulder in 2003 for a general member (not serving on the executive team) who is considered most helpful during the last year. This trophy was originally donated by Ali Block in memory of her brother Fritz Absolem, but unfortunately was lost in 2002. The new trophy was awarded first in 2003 to Jeffrey Porter.
